The SCSSS Fund's Winter Céilidh

The Fund's Winter Céilidh took place on December 5th. We were delighted to welcome back the HLI Céilidh Band for the evening, which included the usual heady mix of Scottish dancing; a raffle; and, of course, the friendly-priced student union bar!

Thanks again to everyone who turned out, and photos and news from the event will be made available soon.

1968 Commemorative Event

The SCSSS Fund hosted an evening to commemorate the events of 1948 and 1968 which shaped the history both of the Czech and Slovak Republics, and the world. The evening took place on Friday 28th of November, in the Music Room of the Edinburgh University Office of Lifelong Learning, and we hope everyone took a great deal from the reminiscences of the people who were there, and the probing questions from those keen to understand what took place.

We would very much like to thank our distinguished panel from the evening for their thoughts and memories.

We hope to make a special section of the site available soon that includes as much of the detail of the night as possible, but especially to include the photographs provided by Jonathan Willis that did so much to illustrate the atmosphere of Prague in those days. If anyone would like to contribute anything to this section (including photos, memories and ideas), please contact: Duncan.MacGruer@ed.ac.uk

Dr Paul Millar, Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic, mentioned a charity he was involved with that works to commemorate the sacrifices made by Czechs during World War II, and we are delighted to link to this site here:
